When Krystal Glass Company was founded in 1980, Jimmy Carter was president, John Lennon was killed, Dallas was the number one TV show, and the South Florida building boom was in full swing. Our business was built on providing etched glass to interior designers, and the very first interior designer client was Roy Sklaryn recalls Chris Lapienski, who founded the company with her husband Rick. The project was a very large panel of artistically carved glass for a condo in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Etched Glass For Interior Designers In 1984, Chris’s brother Peter Edward joined the company and later bought it. Chris was an accomplished artist and created the freehand art that Peter Edward created on glass and mirror. Early projects popular with interior designers were dramatic carved and etched glass creations illuminated with fluorescent and/or neon lights. We hired a public relations agency and exhibited at trade shows. The timing was perfect for the popularity of art glass, and our growth was swift. As business expanded, Peter Edward created etched and carved art glass for many types of projects for homes, businesses, yachts and riverboats....

Carved Glass Memorial Touches Hearts of Family

Carved Glass Memorial Touches Hearts of Family

Glass artist Peter Edward of Krystal Glass Company completed a custom commissioned carved glass memorial in illuminated carved glass for a family whose parents passed away within eight months of each other. The carved glass memorial installation was part of a major renovation to the home that our client’s parents lived in for nearly 20 years. The home will remain in the family as a South Florida vacation home.   Peter Edward created a one-of-a-kind custom illuminated carved glass memorial that displayed two Egret birds among the mangroves in a tropical, nautical South Florida setting to commemorate the client’s parents and the waterfront home they loved. Peter Edward, president of Krystal Glass Company, created the artwork of the peaceful tropical scene to look like the view from the backyard of the waterfront home with tropical birds, mangroves and even a fish jumping out of the water. The art glass is highlighted by two smaller birds at the top flying off together into the sun’s rays to signify the couple’s ascension to heaven. He even carved “Tony and Alice” on the tree surrounded by a heart as if it had been carved in the wood many years ago. “It is just as beautiful as I imagined. Thank you so much. It is a beautiful tribute! It made me tear-up,” the client said when he saw the completed art glass for the first time. Peter Edward used a combination of etched glass and carved glass techniques done by hand at his studio in Pompano Beach, Florida to achieve the fine details of the LED lighted Starphire glass sculpture. Starphire glass is nearly colorless because it contains very...

Peter Edward Reveals Custom Glass Etching Process

Custom Glass Etching: “How’s It Made?” When people see custom glass etching from Krystal Glass Company for the first time, the first thing they usually say is “Wow, that’s awesome!” Then they wonder out loud, “How’s it made”? Below we’ll reveal some detail on the custom glass etching process used by 30-year Glass Artist Peter Edward and explain the typical process involved when commissioning a custom art glass creation. Peter Edward has made thousands of clients happy by sharing his gift for designing and creating beautiful custom glass etching for homes, business and yachts. The custom art glass pictured above is illuminated with LED lights and was created for the owners of a new Marlow yacht. LED illuminated custom glass etching is one of the most popular decorative glass types requested at Krystal Glass Company, a 35 year old art glass company in Pompano Beach, Florida. Every decorative glass and mirror project is a unique one-of-a-kind personal creation as unique as each client is. Question: What is your first step of the custom glass etching process when working with a client to create a unique piece of art glass? Peter Edward: My first priority is to gain a full understanding of their use for the art glass and what type they would like to have. I specialize in custom glass etching and offer several varieties of enhancements to that.  What purpose will the art glass serve? What will it accomplish for them- functional or purely decorative? To ensure a beautiful result, we also ask a lot of questions about where the decorative glass or mirror will be located and how it will be displayed. We know how special each project and its investment...
