New Marlow Yacht Owners Enjoy Radiance of Illuminated Art Glass Etching

Glass Etching With LED Lights

By Peter Edward Jurgens, President & Glass Artist at Krystal Glass Company

One of my favorite projects this year was a special commission to create a custom glass etching with LED lights for the master stateroom of Never Better, a beautiful brand new 2015 Marlow Explorer 66E-CB yacht. The yacht and the LED art glass made their debut at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida.

The art glass etching with LED lights is 59” x 25” and is installed just above the headboard. The artwork I created and coordinated with owners Steve and Patti is a custom underwater sea life scene on ultra clear glass framed in teak to coordinate with the interior. It is illuminated with color changing LED lights which are hidden in the frame and can be adjusted via a dimmer control, perfect for the master stateroom’s ambiance. The LED lighting can be set on any color or the controller can slowly rotate through them all.

“Wow! It’s stunning,” Patti said when seeing the first pictures of the newly completed art glass. “I cannot believe how beautiful the glass looks. I can only imagine seeing it live and all lit up.”

The etched glass with LD lights was shipped from Krystal Glass Company to Marlow Yachts in Snead Island, Florida and installed on Never Better by craftsmen at Marlow Yachts.

I had the opportunity to meet Steve and Patti at the boat show, tour their new yacht and photograph the art glass in its final home.

“It’s truly gorgeous! It truly is a work of art but I’m sure you hear that all the time! It’s fabulous. We just love it,” the couple said about the glass etching with LED lights. “The main reasons we selected Peter Edward and Krystal Glass Company are their flexibility, hands-on one-on-one attention from the artist, and the attention to detail that went into the project,” Patti added.

Steve and Patti acquired their first Marlow yacht in 2009 after looking for just the right cruising yacht for several years. This first iteration of Never Better was 11 years old at that point so they needed some support from Marlow Yachts to get acquainted with their new vessel to perform maintenance.

“The Marlow Yacht team reached out to us, and (founder) David Marlow personally welcomed us to the Marlow Family,” Steve said. “They made themselves available to answer our many questions and offer their support.”

When it was time for a new yacht, Steve and Patti decided on another Marlow Yacht. The new Never Better was built at the Marlow Yacht shipyard in Xiamen, China. Patti took five months off from her job to be the project manager for the new build. She worked closely with Joe Hackelberg and the Marlow Yacht team on the design, layout and all details of their yacht.

Never Better was one of several new yachts featured by Marlow Yachts at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this year.

“We are both so excited to have our dream boat delivered and begin our new adventures,” they said.

We wish Steve and Patti many happy adventures in their new home on the water.
